Nicole Chanrion "Domaine de la Voûte des Crozes" Côte-de-Brouilly AOP 2012
Country: FRANCE / Region: BURGUNDY-BEAUJOLAIS / Appellation: CÔTE-DE-BROUILLY AOP / Varietal(s): GAMAY ---  As a young girl, Nicole Chanrion worked alongside her father helping tend the vineyards, work the harvest, and vinify the wine. In 1988 she took control of the family estate; she works the six and a half hectares by herself and just twelve years later accepted the position of President of Côtes-de-Brouilly AOC. The secrets of her success are dense planting, hand-harvesting, aging in foudres, large oak barrels, and bottling unfiltered. She employs a full carbonic maceration of the wines imparting the classic light, delicate fruit Beaujolais is known for but uses only native yeast, thus avoiding the tropical, sometimes artificial aromas and flavors found in the wines of the region. The lovely nose of this wine features both fruit and earthy notes. The tannins are light and perfect for classic pairings like roasted chicken or marinated tofu with swiss chard and sautéed peppers.

Benmarl Winery Merlot North Fork of Long Island 2013
Country: USA / Region: NEW YORK STATE / Appellation: NORTH FORK OF LONG ISLAND / Varietal(s): MERLOT --- Since we opened in Beacon, Benmarl Winery has been on a consistent upward arc of quality. The Spaccarelli family purchased the winery in the mid-2000’s and have moved towards producing only high-quality New York State wines. They both grow grapes on their estate and purchase fruit from the Finger Lakes and Long Island to supplement their selection. Winemaker Matthew Spaccarelli is one of the most curious in the region, always exploring which European grapes might work in the cool Hudson Valley. The grapes for this merlot are from the North Fork of Long Island, proven to be a prime area for merlot. Mouthfilling black cherry and raspberry fruit come forward, followed by subtle vanilla and earthy notes. Soft tannins and a welcome acidity round out this well balanced, made-for-the-table wine. Try this with walnut pâté on toasted black olive bread.

Château de Bern Sainte-Croix du Mont AOC 2010
Country: FRANCE / Region: BORDEAUX / Appellation: SAINT-CROIX DU MONT / Varietal(s): SEMILLON+MUSCADELLE --- The region of Bordeaux is perhaps the best known region of France. While the red wines from the Médoc receive most of the attention, the dessert wines from the area are equally renowned. Sainte-Croix du Mont lies just across the river from the more well-known and more expensive regions of Sauternes and Barsac. This version is wonderfully balanced, riding the line between sweet and refreshing making it ideal to serve with lighter cheeses or with a panna cotta with berries. Look for flavors of rich stonefruit and a savory finish from the effects of the botrytis mold that creates the depth of flavor found in the area.
