A FRENCH TRIFECTA TO BEAT THE HEAT!
Even though Bastille Day was Tuesday, we're continuing the celebration with an all-French lineup this weekend. Perfect for the hot, hazy, humid summer weather that's upon us, the white and rosé featured here both hail from Bandol, one of Provence's most recognized wine regions, located in the coastal region east of Marseille and Cassis. We finish off with a light, balanced red from the tiny Touraine Amboise appellation of the Loire. Its versatile nature takes the effort out of figuring out what to drink with dinner (honestly, who has the energy in this heat?), and it's organically grown!
Domaine Le Galantin Bandol AOP Blanc 2013 - ORGANICALLY GROWN
Country: FRANCE / Region: PROVENCE / Appellation: BANDOL AOP /
Varietal(s): CLAIRETTE+UGNI BLANC --- One of the great pleasures of summer sipping is the delightful dryness of Bandol blanc. The appellation is quite famous for its rosé wines, but the whites from the area are more obscure, accounting for roughly 5% of the production. Grown on terraced slopes overlooking the Mediterranean, the whites from the region express all the briny elements the body of water offers. This domaine is operated by second generation Celine Pascale. While the region is quite warm, cooling breezes and humidity from the ocean help regulate climate. This white is a blend of clairette and ugni blanc, delivering delicate herbal notes along with a telltale salty/mineral aspect. While this wine is amazingly lovely sipped on its own, it is an ideal accompaniment to seafood and shellfish.

La Bastide Blanche Bandol AOC Rosé 2014
Country: FRANCE / Region: PROVENCE / Appellation: BANDOL AOC / Varietal(s): MOURVEDRE+CINSAULT+ GRENACHE --- We look forward to drinking rosés each year, but inevitably some of the best come from the Bandol appellation. The wines possess a power and depth of flavor, while holding it all together elegantly. La Bastide Blanche is a great example of the quality found in this region. This wonderful wine is the work of Michel & Louis Bronzo, who purchased this property in the early 1970's. Bandol is unique in France in that it is the only area the mourvèdre grape must be dominant. The region is ideal for this sometimes difficult to mature grape. The warm summer days and stony soils are the perfect marriage for the heat-loving grape, allowing it to fully mature before harvest. This cuvée is elegant, yet capable of hanging with almost any summer indulgence. There are lovely strawberry notes entwined with a strong sense of minerals. Peppery notes add complexity, making this juicy wine hard to put down.

La Grange Tiphaine Touraine AOC "Ad Libitum" 2013 - ORGANICALLY GROWN
Country: FRANCE / Region: LOIRE VALLEY / Appellation: TOURAINE AOC / Varietal(s): CÔT+GAMAY+CABERNET FRANC ---Touraine Amboise is a very small appellation (a mere 220 hectares) on both sides of the Loire River east of Tours. Created at the end of the 19th century by Alfonse Delecheneau, La Grange Tiphaine is now in its fourth generation of winemaking, headed by Damien Delecheneau and his wife, Coralie. Their careful attention to the vines in their 10 hectares vineyard results in beautifully balanced, precise, terroir-focused wines. This organically grown red blend combines gamay, cabernet franc and côt (malbec) to create a light-bodied wine with juicy dark wild berry flavors. With a nose of bright red fruit, pepper, and dried herbs, and the palate-cleansing tang of balanced acidity and tannin on the finish, this is a perfect wine to enjoy with summer dinners. Drink this with a variety of grilled foods; also great with Mediterranean cuisine.
