Kerpen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese Trocken 2014
Country: GERMANY / Region: FINGER LAKES / Appellation: FINGER LAKES / Varietal(s): RIESLING --- Kerpen is one of the oldest producers in Mosel, now in its 8th generation, for over 250 years of winemaking experience. This later harvested, dry riesling comes from one of the best vineyard sites in Mosel, a south-facing parcel with blue slate soils. Wildflower honey aromas give way to tropical fruit, tangerine, and spice on the palate, with a voluptuous texture precisely balanced by a racy streak of acidity on the finish. Easter ham has met its match!
La Rioja Alta Rioja DOCa Reserva Viña Ardanza 2007
Country: SPAIN / Region: RIOJA / Appellation: RIOJA DOCA / Varietal(s): TEMPRANILLO+GARNACHA --- Founded in 1890 by five families, Viña Ardanza draws upon generations of experience in traditional winemaking (their own cooperage, manual racking, long ageing periods), and combine it with modern technology to yield the best possible quality wines. This Reserva is an exemplary offering from the region:80% tempranillo from 30 year old vineyards La Cuesta and Montecillo in the villages of Fuenmayor and Cenicero, with 20% garnacha from old vines in Tudelillo, in Rioja Baja.The grapes are separately fermented, using natural yeasts, then matured separately in American oak barrels before blending. Brilliant cherry red in color, this has an intense nose of spicy black pepper, raspberry, candied cherries, vanilla, cloves, cinnamon, and hints of leather and smoky minerals. Juicy red fruit on the palate is elegantly offset by seductive notes of mocha, coconut, and tobacco, complemented by balanced acidity and silky tannins on a refined finish. Powerful yet graceful, this is a delightful companion to bacalao or herb-crusted pork loin.
Château Bertrand Braneyre Haut-Médoc AOC 2005
Country: FRANCE / Region: BORDEAUX / Appellation: HAUT-MEDOC / Varietal(s): CABERNET SAUVIGNON+ MERLOT+CABERNET FRANC+PETIT VERDOT --- Originally founded in 1796, this estate began with making just 60 barrels and while it has grown still remains small. The vineyard holdings are just under 15 hectare since the 1993 purchase of a patch of old vines on prized gravel soil. Intense ruby color, with a nose of ripe figs, prunes and candied berries, this 2005 vintage is still showing a bit of youth, but some maturity also. Well-rounded, rich, and complex, this wine showcases lots of concentrated fruit flavors, especially black currant. A long, silky finish with good tannin structure makes this an excellent companion for pairing with rich, earthy roast lamb.

Beginning by working at a wine shop in college, where he developed a passion for red Burgundy, Brian later became inspired by producers like Calera and Cottonwood to begin creating really great pinot in California. Working the 1997 crush at Cottonwood allowed him to learn the process, and he became convinced the key to amazing wine was all in the fruit. To this end, he buys grapes only from vineyards with the right soil, microclimate, and grape clones, run by equally passionate growers, whom he pays a premium to allow them to limit yields and still make a profit. This approach yields wines that are a reflection of the terroir of the vineyard and the grower as much as the winemaking, resulting in a true collaboration and sense of place, giving each pinot its own unique personality. Garys' Vineyard, where the grapes for this wine were grown, is a joint effort between Gary Franscioni and Gary Pisoni of Pisoni Vineyard. Childhood friends, the two Garys decided to work together to create Garys' Vineyard, which is located in Monterey County, near Soledad, CA. Deep, dense, and luxurious, this pinot is dark ruby in color, with enveloping aromas of ripe cherries, raspberry liqueur, cola, and peppercorns, accented by hints of earth and smoke. Velvety and precise on the palate, a streak of juicy acidity provides lift and structure to seamless flavors of red berries and hibiscus. A powerful, lingering finish boasts silky tannins and echoes of dark berries and candied flowers. Open this alluring gem with prime rib.
Villa M Brachetto
Country: ITALY / Region: PIEDMONT / Appellation: PIEDMONT / Varietal(s): BRACHETTO --- Brachetto is a light sparkling frizzante wine produced in the Acqui region of Piemonte. Made from the black-skinned native Italian grape varietal of the same name, it is produced by macerating the must with the grape skins for two days to allow the red pigment to leach out. Often described as a "lovers' wine", one ancient story has it as the wine that Marc Antony and Julius Caesar wooed Cleopatra with. Sweet, fizzy, and highly aromatic, its light body and low alcohol (5%) make it a perfect after-dinner wine. Notes of strawberries, raspberries, and rose petals are joined by fresh acidity and hints of spice. Serve lightly chilled, with fresh fruit, or as a grownup treat to wash down those chocolate Easter bunnies- especially dark chocolate ones!
