Domaine de la Rouletière Vouvray AOC Sec 2014 - ORGANICALLY GROWN
Country: FRANCE / Region: LOIRE VALLEY / Appellation: VOUVRAY AOC / Varietal(s): CHENIN BLANC --- Domaine de la Rouletière, in the Touraine region, is a 17-hectare vineyard located on some of the most coveted slopes in Vouvray. The Vouvray AOC sits on the right bank of the Loire Valley and is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Chenin blanc is the starring grape here, with its introduction to the region attributed to Saint Martin, along with the construction of the famed Marmoutier Abbey. Owned and operated by the Gilet family, wine growers for five generations, the vines of Domaine Rouletière are grown sustainably, with respect for the environment and attention to detail that extends into the low-temperature vinification in their remarkable two-story cellar, hand-carved in freestone over generations. Subtle, fresh and lively, with rich aromas of pear, acacia, light citrus and honeysuckle, this enticing white reveals delicate nuances of white peach and pineapple on the palate, and a nutty, mineral finish brightened with layers of mouthwatering acidity. An excellent value, this is a great chance to experience the versatility and subtlety of chenin from Vouvray! A winner with seafood, try this with salt cod croquettes.
Yves Duport Bugey AOC "Tradition" Mondeuse 2013 - CERTIFIED ORGANIC
Country: FRANCE / Region: BUGEY / Appellation: BUGEY AOC / Varietal(s): MONDEUSE --- Bugey is a diminutive appellation nestled next to Savoie, dramatically framed by the French Alps just east of Lyon. Producer Yves Duport farms his hillside vineyards using biodynamic methods, hand harvesting and fermenting with indigenous yeast to get the most authentic expression of the region. And what an expression it is: the idiosyncratic native red grape varietal of Bugey, mondeuse, produces wines with a wild, savory quality that'll keep you coming back sip after sip! Complex and a bit eccentric, this deep purple gem is aromatic, light-bodied and juicy, with a nose of brambly summer fruits, blackcurrant, spices and a touch of smoked caramel. Concentrated red and black fruits throughout are supported by silky tannins and a savory spiciness that evokes a Turkish bazaar: black pepper, cardamom, allspice, paprika, joined by chalky minerals on a delicate finish. This wine is full of personality without being overwhelming, with a racy acidity that draws you in for another taste. Wonderfully versatile, this is equally enjoyable on its own, or with smoked paprika-rubbed grilled chicken thighs or pork chops.
