Today we're excited to welcome special guest Olivia Szwabo from Greenhook Ginsmiths located just down the river in Brooklyn! She will be here showcasing three different styles: American Dry Gin, Old Tom Gin and Beach Plum Gin Liqueur (made from rare Long Island beach plums) to help us celebrate cocktail season! And if wine is what you prefer, never fear: we also have two new French wines to refresh you after the long holiday weekend. A lightly sparkling "pet-nat" rosé from the Loire is an elegant, organic addition to your summer rosé lineup, while our red today is a light, dignified pinot noir from Alsace. Both make great midsummer selections for drinking alone or pairing with food.

Country: USA / Region: NEW YORK STATE / Appellation: N/A / Varietal(s): N/A --- After several years of planning, experimenting and building their distillery in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, New York, Greenhook Ginsmiths released their flagship offering, American Dry Gin in February 2012 to immediate acclaim. Founded by Steven DeAngelo and his brother Philip, both gin enthusiasts, Greenhook Ginsmiths has quickly emerged as one of the premier American gin makers. Greenhook Ginsmiths distill their gin on a custom-made copper pot still, designed to work in conjunction with a vacuum. This allows them to remove air pressure from the still during distillation, a technique known as vacuum distillation. This has the advantage of allowing the distillation to occur at low temperatures, thus preserving the delicate aromas and volatile oils of the botanicals by preventing them from becoming “cooked” from excessive heat during distillation. This process results in a beautifully fragrant gin with lifted aromas and vibrant flavors. Today, Greenhook Ginsmiths representative Olivia Szwabo will be showcasing three gins: their flagship American Dry Gin, Old Tom Gin and the new Beach Plum Gin Liqueur - a take on sloe gin made from rare Long Island beach plums.
La Grange Tiphaine "Rosa Rosé Rosam" Vin de France 2015 - CERTIFIED ORGANIC
Country: FRANCE / Region: LOIRE VALLEY / Appellation: VIN DE FRANCE / Varietal(s): GROLLEAU+ GAMAY+CÔT+CABERNET FRANC --- Created at the end of the 19th century by Alfonse Delecheneau, La Grange Tiphaine is now in its fourth generation of winemaking, headed by Damien Delecheneau and his wife, Coralie. Their careful attention to the vines in their 11-hectare vineyard results in beautifully balanced, precise, terroir-focused wines. This lightly sparkling "pet-nat" rosé makes brilliant use of local Loire Valley red grapes, from 80-year old vines tended without the use of chemicals or mechanization. Fermenting with native yeasts keeps the character of the terroir intact and the resulting wines fresh and vibrant. "Rosa, Rosé, Rosam" is made with a unique blend of grolleau (named "crow" for the intense black of its ripe fruit), gamay, côt (malbec) and cabernet franc, yielding a dry, defined, elegant rosé. Medium-bodied and seductively pink in color, this classically dry wine displays a lovely nose of ripe red berries, followed by notes of raspberry, strawberry and crushed herbs on the palate. A bright, lively finish and lingering mineral streak make this a sophisticated choice for picnicking. Try it with grilled shrimp!
Domaine Bechtold Pinot Noir Alsace AOC "Obere Hund" 2013 - ORGANICALLY GROWN
Country: FRANCE / Region: ALSACE / Appellation: ALSACE AOC / Varietal(s): PINOT NOIR --- Jean-Marie Bechtold is the fourth generation to helm this traditional estate, working with his father in 1980 before taking over in 1995. The domaine is located in Dahlenheim, an area boasting 2,000 years of viticultural history, west of Strasbourg in the slopes of the “Couronne d’Or”. Among its 12 hectares of vineyards, the domaine has impressive holdings in the Grand Cru “Engelberg” site, complemented by parcels in three other vineyards: “Sussenberg”, "Silberburg" and “Obere Hund”, where this pinot comes from. Domaine Bechtold is the only organic grower in Dahlenheim and Jean-Marie Bechtold is currently transitioning to biodynamic viticulture. He minimizes intervention during vinification to allow the wines to express their own character and to remain faithful to the vintage. Nearly all fermentation is done in stainless steel to capture the refreshing acidity and pure, light, elegant style of the region. Classic examples of the flavor and structure characteristic of this unique terroir, these wines possess a complexity without being overwhelming, coupled with a silky yet firm texture. Cool and refined, this pinot noir is aged in large oak barrels after fermentation and offers aromas of dry cherries and herbs that evolve to clear, pure dark cherry fruit on the palate, elegantly finishing on a lingering savory note. Delightful with an al fresco dinner of grilled zucchini and eggplant, grilled sausage, hard cheeses and charcuterie.
