SPECIAL GUEST NEIL PALLADINO FROM BOUTIQUE WINE COLLECTION
Today our friend Neil Palladino of Boutique Wine Collection will be pouring some of his favorite selections for the coming summer to fall transition. Two distinctly different and delicious Vinho Verdes are followed by a light and lively Austrian blaufränkisch, great for kicking off the holiday weekend BBQs!

Aríos "Aguafuerte" Loureiro Vinho Verde DOC 2015
Country: PORTUGAL / Region: AMARANTE / Appellation: VINHO VERDE DOC / Varietal(s): LOUREIRO --- Loureiro means bay laurel, and the scent of loureiro wines is said to resemble that of laurel flowers, with the appealing addition of orange, acacia, and lime blossom over a core of orchard fruit. The loureiro grape may have originated in the valley of the River Lima, towards the north of the Minho/Vinho Verde region. Traditionally blended with arinto, trajadura, and alvarinho, it is often now bottled on its own to highlight the subtlety, freshness, and acidity it possesses. Despite its resurgence, loureiro vineyards throughout the Vinho Verde region have become almost decimated. Made with grapes from various vineyards within the subregion of Amarante in the Vinho Verde appellation, Aguafuerte loureiro is only produced in a good vintage year. Fermented in stainless steel and bottled young to preserve the natural freshness of the varietal, this pale yellow wine presents delicate, complex aromas of orange blossom and bay laurel flower. Mouthwatering acidity supports a core of light, ripe fruit on the palate, with a lingering finish perfect for drinking with clean, light foods such as ceviche, sushi or simple salads.

Aríos "Aguafuerte" Trajadura Vinho Verde DOC 2015
Country: PORTUGAL / Region: AMARANTE / Appellation: VINHO VERDE DOC / Varietal(s): TRAJADURA --- A white grape originating in Portugal, trajadura is found primarily in the Vinho Verde region in the northwest, as well as in Galicia and Rías Baixas in Spain. Primarily used as a blending grape, it's now gaining popularity as a single varietal as well. Possessing distinctive aromas of peaches, apricots, and other stone fruit offset by a hint of lemon, its rich, ripe fruit character carries through in the mouth while maintaining freshness and delicacy. Like the loureiro, Aríos's trajadura is only produced in exceptional vintage years, fermented in stainless steel and bottled young. Clear citrine in color, and vibrant on the palate, this works beautifully to accompany poached chicken or grilled scallops.

Evolúció Blaufränkisch Weinland 2014
Country: AUSTRIA / Region: BURGENLAND / Appellation: WEINLAND / Varietal(s): BLAUFRANKISCH --- Evolúció blaufränkisch comes from the Burgenland region of Austria, located on the eastern side of the country by the Hungarian border. The oldest vine growing region in Austria, it is famous for producing some of the best Austrian red wines, especially those from the blaufränkisch and St. Laurent grapes. The cold, rainy weather of 2014 resulted in wines with focused acidity and lower alcohol levels, perfect for late summer sipping! Light ruby colored, with notes of blueberry and spice on the nose, this is fresh and lively on the palate, featuring dark ripe cherries and blueberries and a velvety texture. Fine tannins balanced with bright acidity and a lingering finish make this a great match with grilled veggies, sausage or smoked turkey.
