Maz Caz Costières de Nîmes AOC Blanc 2016 - ORGANICALLY GROWN
Country: FRANCE / Region: RHÔNE VALLEY / Appellation: COSTIÈRES DE NÎMES AOC / Varietal(s): GRENACHE BLANC+ROUSSANNE --- UC Davis graduate Michele d’Aprix is a rapidly rising star in the wine world. After completing her studies in California, she made her way to Bordeaux where she took advantage of the opportunity to be mentored by renowned winemaker Stephane Derenoncourt, before branching out to start her own project in St. Emilion, named Pentimento. Now she has expanded even further, crafting three wines from Costières de Nîmes, the southernmost of the Rhône winegrowing regions. Accorded AOC status in 1986, Costières de Nîmes boasts exceptional gravely soils and a Mediterranean climate that lend the wines juicy ripeness and earthy character, but remains just under the radar enough to yield some great values – like this! "Caz" translates to "crazy in a good way", and her wines are crazy good: honest, juicy, young, and pure. 60% grenache blanc and 40% roussanne, all from hand harvested organically grown grapes, this delicious white is gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel tank to preserve its vibrant fruit character. Fresh, juicy peaches and pears meld with touches of honeysuckle and beeswax, with mouthwatering acidity and elegant minerality that make this a versatile partner to all kinds of cuisines! Take the suggestion on the label and pair with oysters, or enjoy with roast chicken or a bucket of drunken mussels in white wine, butter, and garlic.
Mas de Libian "Vin de Pétanque" Vin de France 2016 - CERTIFIED BIODYNAMIC
Country: FRANCE / Region: RHÔNE VALLEY / Appellation: VIN DE FRANCE / Varietal(s): GRENACHE+SYRAH+MOURVEDRE+COUNOISE+VACCARÈSE --- Mas de Libian has been a working farm since 1670, and has remained in the Thibon family since its inception; nowawdays helmed by Hélène Thibon! Farmed biodynamically since the 1960s, this entry level red is a fantastic value in natural wine! This grenache-driven stunner also boasts mourvèdre, syrah, and small amounts of counoise and another southern Rhône native, vaccarèse. "Pétanque" is a popular Provençal game of boules, and this wine is meant to be drunk young with friends in casual settings. Fermented exclusively in concrete tank, it's bottled unfiltered, with the barest smidgen of sulfur added at bottling (it sees no other sulfur.) Gorgeous aromatics of red flowers, orange rind, and grenadine perfume the air, leading to juicy, electrifying flavors of blackberry, spice, and hints of lavender and thyme. Mouthwateringly succulent, crunchy, and fresh, this is fantastic slightly chilled with olive bread, saucisson, hard cheeses, and good friends!
