Domaine Lafage Rosé Côtes du Roussillon AOP "Miraflors" 2016
Country: FRANCE / Region: ROUSSILLON / Appellation: COTES DU ROUSSILLON AOP / Varietal(s): MOURVEDRE+GRENACHE GRIS --- The Roussillon region is just a stone's throw from Spain. Jean-Marc Lafage, in fact, makes wines in both countries. He is young and energetic, having completely updated the vineyards and cellar of his father while making numerous wines. His French wines seem to evoke the modern, polished flavors of Spain while focusing on the indigenous grapes cultivated throughout history. This lovely rosé is a blend of mainstays mourvèdre and grenache gris. This salmon-hued wine is reminiscent of the nearby ocean, with salty, stony notes and delicate fruit flavors. Enjoy this with all manner of shellfish or couscous tossed with quickly cooked vegetables.
Le Cantine di Indie "Polpo Rosso" Terre Siciliane IGT 2015 - ORGANICALLY GROWN
Country: ITALY / Region: SICILY / Appellation: TERRE SICILIANE IGT / Varietal(s): NERELLO MASCALESE --- The importers at Indie Wineries have sourced another winning cuvée for all of us to enjoy. Working in Sicily, they tapped a family whose vineyards have been traced back to 1730. Massimo Gregorio has taken on the responsibility to update and refurbish this family estate. He works entirely organically and has returned to the indigenous grapes of Sicily, such as this nerello mascalese. Here we have a more delicate expression of the grape, playing on the aromatics rather than the rustic notes. The texture is smooth, not too tannic and ready for the namesake octopus or a traditional pasta. A perfect light red for for fickle spring weather, this is great with a light chill for warm afternoons, or serve cellar temp for those still-cool nights!
