Country: GREECE / Region: CYCLADES ISLANDS / Appellation: SANTORINI PDO / Varietal(s): ASSYRTIKO --- Santorini is famous for its sunsets but it also produces some great wines! The island is only 11 miles long and 7 miles wide, but contains 13 wineries, with the indigenous white grape, assyrtiko, dominating production. Instead of using trellises like many wineries, the grape growers of Santorini place their vines in a kouloura ("circle" or "basket"). This aids in protecting the grapes from the hot sun and strong winds. These baskets must be hand harvested, and many of the vines are over 150 years old on ungrafted rootstock (fortunately phylloxera never came to the island). These factors, combined with Santorini's volcanic, sandy soils, contribute defined acidity and great character to the wines. Thanks in part to the hot, breezy conditions, diseases are easier to manage, allowing producers to farm organically. Hatzidakis Winery has been doing this since 1996, and now produces 11 cuvées, seven of which are assyrtiko. This new white is clean and brisk, with bright acidity, floral and orange aromas and a smooth texture in the mouth. Palate-cleansing acidity, herbal touches, and a long, savory finish make this a winner with anything from the sea.
Broc Cellars "Love Rosé" North Coast 2016 - ORGANICALLY GROWN

Brockway takes a hands-off approach, allowing nature to be in charge. Broc's "Love" red and white have many fans already – now here's the delicious "Love" rosé made from a blend of three grape varietals from California's North Coast vineyards – all grown organically. The color comes from the Portuguese varietal sauzão, while zinfandel contributes spice notes, and valdiguié lends mouthwatering acidity. After destemming, the fruit was pressed into stainless steel, with all three varietals fermenting together. The result is fantastically refreshing – explosive aromatics yield to juicy watermelon, cherry, and berry notes for easy drinking. This wine, like all Broc Cellars wines, is made naturally, meaning only native yeast is used to spark fermentation, and nothing is added except a minimal dose of sulfur prior to bottling. Try this with grilled shrimp with Israeli cous cous and tomato cucumber salad.
Ronsel do Sil "Vel'uveyra" Mencía Ribeira Sacra DO 2014 - ORGANICALLY GROWN
Country: SPAIN / Region: GALICIA / Appellation: RIBEIRA SACRA DO / Varietal(s): MENCÍA --- Nestled in her small, historic winery high above the River Sil in the Ribeira Sacra region of Galicia, winemaker Maria José Yravedra relishes the challenge of discovering the lost vines now growing wild in the surrounding hills. These steeply terraced vineyards were brought lovingly back from years of neglect, with some vines even still planted in old Roman terraces. Maria focuses on local varietals like mencía, merenzao (trousseau), godello, treixadura, and dona branca, while only using organic and biodynamic methods from vineyard to cellar. 100% mencía, this cuvée comes from 10-60 year old vines on granite soils, which are hand harvested, fermented with native yeast, and then aged in concrete vats for 8 months. This medium-bodied red has lovely pure flavors of pomegranate and cherry with rocky mineral accents. A nose of hibiscus tea combines earthiness with candied red cherry, and a precise finish lingers with notes of savory crushed herbs. This makes a fantastic companion to potato tortilla with bacon, shallots, and truffle oil.
