Domaine de Majas Rosé "L'Amourouse" Côtes Catalanes PGI 2017 - ORGANICALLY GROWN / LOW INTERVENTION

Country: FRANCE / Region: LANGUEDOC-ROUSSILLON / Appellation: CÔTES CATALANES PGI / Varietal(s): SYRAH+MERLOT --- Alain Carrère founded Domaine de Majas with his wife Agnès in 1992. Situated between Corbières and the Pyrenees mountains, the estate today represents 30 hectares, all in the commune of Caudiès-de-Fenouillèdes. A meeting with Tom Lubbe of Domaine Matassa provided the catalyst for Alain's conversion to organic, and Domaine de Majas has now been an organic estate for over 15 years. As well as working organically in the vineyards, Tom and Alain also eliminated all commercial yeasts, additives, and excess sulfur in the cellar, to further highlight the different terroirs the estate offers. Predominantly syrah with a touch of merlot, this lovely rosé was fermented in cement and aged in bottle, without fining. Bright acidity and notes of cherries and strawberries with a squeeze of ruby red grapefruit make this a refreshing aperitif or partner with lemon-garlic potatoes and Provençal chickpea braise.  

Clos Fantine Cuvée Tradition Faugères AOC 2016 - BIODYNAMICALLY GROWN / LOW INTERVENTION 

Country: FRANCE / Region: LANGUEDOC / Appellation: FAUGÈRES AOC / Varietal(s): CARIGNAN+GRENACHE+SYRAH+MOURVÈDRE+CINSAULT --- A deep, dark and beguiling wine from Faugères, in the Languedoc. Located just outside of the village of Lenthéric, the 28-hectare Clos Fantine estate is run by three siblings: Carole, Corinne and Olivier Andrieu. They built their winery in 2000, three years after their father (a winemaker with a talent and passion for natural wines) passed away, and have been making natural wines in his honor ever since. All their wines are made from biodynamically grown grapes without any added SO2 and spend 18-20 months in concrete vat, depending on the vintage. A blend of carignan, grenache and syrah, mourvèdre and cinsault, this is a funky, earthy expression of blackberries and red currants, with touches of crushed herbs, smoke, and minerals. Complex and rustic, this makes a great match with grilled or roasted meats, or those hearty, earthy fall stews.
