Domaine Dupraz "Plantée des Comtes" Roussette de Savoie AOP 2014
Country: FRANCE / Region: SAVOIE / Appellation: ROUSSETTE DE SAVOIE AOP / Varietal(s): ROUSSETTE AKA ALTESSE --- This white is from the Savoie region of eastern France, nestled in the foothills of the Alps just across the border from Switzerland. Located in Apremont, at the foot of Mont Granier, Domaine Dupraz has roots dating back to 1880. It was founded by the great-grandfather, Louis, and grandfather, Robert, of the current winemaker, Jeremy Dupraz. Jeremy initially pursued a career in computer science and commerce before becoming the 7th generation to take up the family tradition. He renamed the estate Domaine Dupraz in 2011 to express his desire to make wine with more specific terroir traits than his predecessors. The estate is currently converting to organic viticulture, with the poor topsoil at the foot of Mont Granier forcing the vines to dig deep, which results in great mineral expression in the finished wines. This delectable white is made from the altesse grape, also known as roussette. Crisp, with delightful complexity, notes of crushed mountain herbs, flowers and citrus mingle with light stone fruit and the tiniest touch of hazelnut. Balanced by bright acidity and chalky, briny minerals, this makes a beautiful companion to traditional fondue or charcuterie plates.
Solindo Tempranillo-Syrah La Mancha DO 2016
Country: SPAIN / Region: CASTILLA LA MANCHA / Appellation: LA MANCHA DO / Varietal(s): TEMPRANILLO+SYRAH --- This 50-50 blend of tempranillo and syrah hails from some of the hottest earth in the Iberian Peninsula, all but demanding an early harvest to maintain freshness and avoid an overly alcoholic, flabby wine. Smooth and almost addictively quaffable, this bursts with lush red and purple berries (think strawberries, cherries and black currants), silky tannins and hints of spice. An easy-drinking value that's easy to grab for just about any occasion; try this with pulled pork sandwiches or vegetarian three-bean chili.
