Country: FRANCE / Region: RHÔNE VALLEY / Appellation: VIN DE PAYS DE VAUCLUSE IGP / Varietal(s): ROUSSANNE --- The Alary family's viticultural and wine production history dates back as far as 1692, to the reign of Louis XIV (from an American historical perspective, the Alary family has been making wine since the first year people of Salem, Massachusetts were accused of witchcraft! I digress!). In all, ten generations have successively played their part in building the domaine, guided by a healthy respect for nature and the environment. Proof of their commitment to sustainable environmental stewardship was the decision in 2009 to convert to organic farming. From a minuscule 2 hectares of stony clay soils, the organically farmed roussanne grapes are hand-harvested early in the morning to allow sorting in the vineyard and prevent oxidation. The nose is fresh and shows elegant restraint, asking you to engage in the notes of honeycomb and white flowers. The palate has lovely rounded acidity and a mineral expression backed by notes of honey and acacia. Bright but with some body and texture, a great match for foods you may crave on these cool Spring evenings.

Country: FRANCE / Region: BURGUNDY / Appellation: BOURGOGNE AOC / Varietal(s): PINOT NOIR --- The Le Meurger name stems from the word “meurs” (walls), constructed to outline a property, built along the edges of vineyard plots from stones extracted from the fields. More often the word "clos" is used to reference these walls, however, this bottle of red Burgundy is all about breaking down barriers by offering affordable bottles that still convey a sense of place. This private label project by Village Wine Company was a way to introduce wine-drinkers to what can be an intimidating category with intimidating prices to match. In the bottle, we get red cherry and just-ripe raspberry aromas, with a lovely crunchy tart cherry palate with a bright acidity that makes this super thirst-quenching and food-worthy: Spiced-shiitake tacos, cedar-plank salmon, or a late-night sausage, egg and cheese biscuit.
