And so do Dana and Scott Frank, makers of Bow & Arrow; that's the inspiration for their wines, using exclusively Loire Valley varietals. Many have noted the similarities in climate and latitude between the Willamette Valley and the Loire Valley (as well as Burgundy). 100% sauvignon blanc from Bill Holloran's beloved and certified biodynamic La Chenaie Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills, this bottling has a truly unique character. Far from the lean-and-mean sauvignons that seem ubiquitous in summertime, this wine displays a rounder texture thanks to time spent aging on the lees in partial new oak barrels. From a single clone, this barrel-fermented sauvignon blanc offers up generous notes of pear and candied peaches, with luxurious ripe orchard fruit and undertones of dried herbs. Open this with chicken breasts with grilled peaches, arugula, and basil.

Varietal(s): CABERNET FRANC --- One of our favorite New York producers, Eminence Road Farm Winery marches to the beat of its own drummer. Based in a converted cow barn in the mountain valley of Long Eddy, NY, on the western edge of the Catskills, Eminence Road is still, in a way, a Finger Lakes winery. All of their wines are made from sustainably grown Finger Lakes grapes, in this case from Keuka Lake. All wine is produced from single vineyard lots, fermented by naturally occurring yeasts, and bottled by hand, unfined and unfiltered with the only addition being a minimal amount of sulfur for stability. This lovely rosé is made from 100% cabernet franc, hand harvested, crushed and destemmed, then fermented with native yeast in old French barrels, and bottled unfiltered and unfined (as all Eminence Road wines are). The wine went through malolactic fermentation, lending it a richer body and texture than many lighter rosés. Almost approaching a light red in body (but still perched in the rosé camp), this displays juicy notes of raspberries and melon, with a luxurious, mouth-filling texture. This fuller-bodied style, along with savory hints of green pepper and herbs on the finish make this a great rosé to pair with heartier fare. Try it with grilled sirloin tip, mushroom, pepper, and onion kebabs.

For those new to the winery, Broc was founded by Chris Brockway and built on a philosophy of sourcing sustainable and organic fruit on the way to creating exceptional wines. He takes a hands-off approach, allowing nature to be in charge. As the playful name indicates, Amore Rosso is the Italian sister wine to Broc's popular "Love Red"! 100% sangiovese, the grapes for this lively red come from the Lone Oak Vineyard, a very steep plot of 20 year old vines planted on rocky, iron-rich soil. Destemmed and fermented with native yeasts, the wine was pressed after two weeks and aged in neutral French oak barrels and bottled with a minimal dose of sulfur. Light and bright, this is incredibly expressive, with aromas of cinnamon, clove, and red cherry. Easy drinking, its lively acidity on the palate makes this perfect for pizza (it's right on the label, after all!) or cheese and charcuterie. Serve lightly chilled at your next gathering (or save it for your own summer "staycation") and watch it disappear!
