Mattei Cap Corse Quinquina NV Blanc
Country: FRANCE / Region: CORSICA / Appellation: N/A/ Varietal(s): N/A --- This bittersweet Corsican aperitif begins with a base of mistelle (slightly fermented grape juice fortified with brandy) made from muscat and vermentinu grapes grown on the northern part of the island. Cinchona bark (quinine) is joined by local citron (cédrat) fruit, and other botanicals and spices. Aromas of mixed herbs, quinine, floral elderflower and honeysuckle transition to a bittersweet palate with quinine bitterness nicely offset by zesty lemon and lemongrass flavors.
Mattei Cap Corse Quinquina NV Rouge
Country: FRANCE / Region: CORSICA / Appellation: N/A/ Varietal(s): N/A --- The rouge also starts with a base of mistelle from muscat and vermentinu grapes. Cinchona bark (quinine) mingles with local citron (cédrat) fruit, and other botanicals and spices. Aromas of quinine, citrus, floral elderflower and honeysuckle introduce a bittersweet palate. Robust flavors of grape, caramel, and classic quinine bitterness are balanced by a honeyed sweetness and a finish of complex herbal notes, especially rosemary.
Cappelletti Pasubio Vino Amaro
Country: ITALY / Region: PIEDMONT / Appellation: N/A / Varietal(s): N/A --- Pasubio was one of the first amaro recipes created by Guiseppe Cappelletti in the early 1900s. Built on a base of aged wine, it gets its name from Mount Pasubio in the Dolomites, famous for its road with 52 tunnels, that was originally built by the Italian army as an alternate supply route. This is an example of the older alpine style of digestif, with a nose of tree bark, root beer, and other woody, earthy notes. A rich, mouth-coating palate provides flavors of cola along with blueberries, strawberry preserves, pine sap, and crushed mountain herbs on a lingering finish with hints of mint!
