JUICY VALUES FROM FRANCE AND SPAIN
Domaine Eugène Carrel Rosé Jongieux AOC 2017
Country: FRANCE / Region: SAVOIE / Appellation: JONGIEUX AOC / Varietal(s): GAMAY+MONDEUSE --- The Savoie region tends to fly under the radar, known more for its excellent skiing or summer relaxation opportunities than for its wines. The wines from this region are rarely found outside of the area, leading one to reason that the locals and tourists are enjoying these wines immensely, keeping them to themselves! The region lies in southeastern France, due east of the grand city of Lyon and south of Geneva, Switzerland. The climate is best described as alpine, with vineyards spread throughout the region, often clinging to hillsides in slightly warmer zones. Most of the production is white, although there are reds and sparkling wines as well. (The dominant grape is called jacquère, a productive grape known for its aromatics and crisp acidity, and one from this same domaine that we've been happy to carry for several years now.) But just in time for rosé season, this blend of 80% gamay and 20% mondeuse (another grape local to the region) bursts with strawberry and raspberry flavors, crisp, dry, and clean on the palate. A refreshing value for almost any occasion, try this with grilled cheese and veggie sandwiches!
GULP/HABLO 2017 - ORGANICALLY GROWN
Country: SPAIN / Region: LA MANCHA / Appellation: N/A / Varietal(s): WHITE-RED BLEND --- The name says it all. This is a kitchen-sink blend of sixteen different grape varietals, both white and red, all either organically or biodynamically grown in the Castilla La Mancha region of Spain. Aromas of berries, flowers, and crushed herbs open the show, then it's all about ripe strawberries, peaches, apricots, and wet stones on the palate. Straddling the line between light red and rosé, this juicy, aromatic LITER just screams to accompany your next picnic, BBQ, or weeknight dinner! Like these long summer evenings, this will be gone in the blink of an eye. Serve slightly chilled.
