WHAT TO PAIR WITH THOSE SUMMER DOLDRUMS? WILD AND WOOLLY WEST COAST WINES!
Feeling like your palate is in a summer rut? Here are three wines to help it bust out! West Coast takes on French grape varietals, each one of these unique quaffs from Washington and California boasts a lot of personality in each sip. Full of flavor and character, these are still light and lively enough to cut through all this oppressive humidity!

Gramercy Cellars Picpoul Walla Walla Valley Los Oidos Vineyard 2017
Country: USA / Region: WASHINGTON STATE / Appellation: WALLA WALLA VALLEY / Varietal(s): PICPOUL --- Gramercy Cellars was founded in 2005 by Master Sommelier Greg Harrington and his wife, Pam. Prior to starting a winery, Harrington managed wine programs for restaurants owned by Joyce Goldstein, Emeril Lagasse, Stephen Hanson, and Wolfgang Puck. Brandon Moss joined the Gramercy Cellars team in 2009 and now makes wines alongside Harrington, having formerly worked at King Estate, Indevin, and Waters. Gramercy started making picpoul in 2013 as the grape was a favorite of Pam Harrington. This vintage was sourced from the sustainably farmed Los Oídos Vineyard, located in the Blue Mountains of Walla Walla. Planted predominantly in the Languedoc region of France, the picpoul grape is valued for its crisp acidity and lemony, floral aromatics. Combining the zip of a sauvignon blanc with a touch of gruner veltliner-like spice and chardonnay-esque texture, this is a great way to bust out of your summer wine doldrums! There's a lot going on here: from the high intensity nose that bursts with white flowers and lemon custard to the spicy Anjou pears and lemon verbena on the palate. But wait, there's more! A creamy (but not buttery) mouthfeel and gravelly mineral notes add irresistible elegance, all cut by the electric acidity that keeps this balanced and fresh. A deliriously long finish offers a subtle hint of hazelnut along with that lovely minerality, almost reminiscent of a white Burgundy. This screams for seafood: think cod with aioli or grilled oysters!

Matthiasson Rosé California 2016 - ORGANICALLY GROWN
Country: USA / Region: CALIFORNIA / Appellation: CALIFORNIA / Varietal(s): GRENACHE+SYRAH+MOURVEDRE+SAUVIGNON BLANC+COUNOISE --- Matthiasson Vineyards is the result of two dedicated farmers-turned-winemakers. Steve Matthiasson co-authored the manual on California sustainable agriculture practices in 1999, and worked as a vineyard consultant before focusing his efforts on his own winemaking. Jill Klein Matthiasson studied botany, ancient farming methods, and traditional techniques for soil health, and has pioneered farmer-to-farmer networking for sustainability. Their intense commitment to soil health in their vineyards translates into focused, elegant wines of character and quality. The 2016 rosé is a blend of grenache, syrah, mourvèdre, sauvignon blanc, and counoise from four sustainably farmed vineyards spanning Dunnigan Hills, Napa Valley, and Mendocino. Light orange-pink in color, it has aromas of red berries and blood orange with hints of acacia blossoms, herbs, dried roses, and anise. Red currant, cherry, and peach flavors finish firm and spicy on the palate with a touch of tangerine and lingering, clean minerality. Its depth and clarity make it the perfect complement for the summer influx of fresh veggies (salads, frittatas, peas, green garlic, summer squash). Enjoy this with anything fresh and green, or just kick back with a glass on the porch! Zucchini has met its match!

Turley Cinsault Bechthold Vineyard Lodi 2017 - ORGANICALLY GROWN
Country: USA / Region: CALIFORNIA / Appellation: LODI / Varietal(s): CINSAULT --- Turley Wine Cellar has developed a reputation for some of the greatest zinfandels and petite sirahs from California. All of Turley's vineyards are either certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers or somewhere in the process, and only natural yeasts are used to spark fermentation. The wines now have a cult following, and we're delighted to be able to continue to share this unique cinsault with you. Planted in 1886 in Lodi, this cinsault vineyard is the oldest of its kind in the country! A more restrained and fresh offering than many, this features lovely aromatics, refreshing tartness, and a delicate structure, perfect for this steamy weather. This chillable red can be drunk all alone or with any sort of grilled meat.
