Kerpen Riesling Kabinett Wehlener Sonnenuhr 2014

However this actually means minuscule production from 8 hectares of vines, culminating in 5,000 to 6,000 cases of wine per year. Given that they make around 15 different wines per year, this is quite an ambitious undertaking for the 250 year old winery. The brilliance of Kerpen is the striking balance between acidity and fruit, as well as the expression of the drastically sloping slate vineyards which define the Mosel region. The pure blue slate Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard produces a wine with clear lemon and peach aromas with a distinct mineral backbone. The lively, long-lasting acidity makes this an incredibly refreshing wine with spicy stir-frys, pad thai, and Hainanese chicken rice.
Clos des Mourres "A Table!" Syrah Vaucluse IGP 2017 - BIODYNAMICALLY GROWN + LOW INTERVENTION
Country: FRANCE / Region: RHÔNE VALLEY / Appellation: VAUCLUSE IGP / Varietal(s): SYRAH --- Named after a wild lettuce that winemaker Jean-Philippe Bouchet used to gather with his grandfather, Clos des Mourres is run in accordance with biodynamic principles. Together with his partner Ingrid, the duo farms 15 hectares of red and white grapes across the Côtes du Rhône and Vaucluse regions. Low-impact farming utilizing biodynamic fertilizers and organic protections from fungus creates a healthy environment for both the vines and microorganisms in the soils. "A Table!" comes from 2 parcels of syrah located in Vaison la Romaine. From the winemaker: "At table!" is the phrase shouted to our children to spend a moment sitting with family and share the cooked meal. This wine expresses all the simplicity but at the same time all the pleasure of these small meals: this wine has the pretension to be drunk without any pretension...but at the convenience of each and during the hundreds of small daily meals, real little pleasures everyday!" Et voila!
Palladino Barbera d'Alba DOC Superiore 2014 - SUSTAINABLY GROWN
Country: ITALY / Region: PIEDMONT / Appellation: BARBERA D'ALBA DOC / Varietal(s): BARBERA --- Winemaking in the Palladino family dates back to the mid 1850s in the commune of Serralunga d'Alba. In the heart of the Barolo zone, Palladino also makes a brilliant Barbera d'Alba all sourced from sustainably farmed vineyards in the Serralunga commune, which is known for producing wines of serious structure, due to the area's unique calcareous clay soils. Their Barbera d'Alba Superiore is a fruitful, lower-tannin alternative to the burlier Barolo. Grapes are harvested in small baskets, crushed and then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks before 8 months of aging in old, large-format barrels (botti). The wine is delicious with a little bottle age (this is the 2014!), still showing some fresh red cherry and black berry aromas, with hints of dried herbs and clove. Freshness on the palate is emphasized by persistent acidity - pair this with anything tomato-related: gravy and meatballs, pizza, ratatouille, or aloo gobi!
