Free Wine Tasting - Saturday - Discounted 10%

TAKE A "WINE"-DING TRIP UP THE WEST COAST!
It's a blustery weekend here in New York, so we're heading west for a tasty tour up and down the other coast, via three red wines ('cause we still want to stay nice and cozy!) From a classic Oregon pinot, to Washington State cabernet sauvignon, and finishing with a zinfandel-based blend from Paso Robles, California, this is a great chance to experience the incredible variety of wines the West Coast gives us!

Salem Wine Co. Pinot Noir Eola-Amity Hills 2015 - BIODYNAMICALLY GROWN
Counntry: USA / Region: OREGON / Appellation: EOLA-AMITY HILLS / Varietal(s): PINOT NOIR --- Salem Wine Company is a project by Rajat Parr and Sashi Moorman, who were behind the highly sought-after Evening Land, Sandhi, and Domaine de la Côte. With those credentials, expectations for this wine were high, and we're pleased to report that it certainly doesn't disappoint. Near Salem, Oregon, about an hour's drive southeast of Portland, lies the seahorse-shaped  Eola-Amity Hills AVA. Contained entirely within the larger Willamette Valley AVA, it was established in 2006. The name Eola comes from Aeolus, the Greek god of winds, and those winds define this AVA's character, as cool sea breezes are funneled over the hills, rapidly cooling the vineyards but also increasing evaporation. Foliage is thinner and vines are challenged to produce their fruit, gaining complexity as they respond to unique climactic changes. Most of the fruit for this cuvée comes from the renowned, biodynamically farmed Seven Springs Vineyard. Aged for 15 months in neutral oak barrels, the purity of fruit really shines though. Delicate and elegant, it opens with a lovely bouquet of red and black cherries, black raspberries, wild mushrooms, and hints of Earl Grey tea. The vibrant palate brings forth more flavors of strawberry, cherry, pomegranate, cola, tobacco leaf and baking spice. A showstopping addition to any meal, pair with fennel garlic pork roast.

Ross Andrew Winery "The Huntsman" Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2016
Country: USA / Region: WASHINGTON STATE / Appellation: COLUMBIA VALLEY / Varietal(s): CABERNET SAUVIGNON --- A fairly small winery by volume, Ross Andrew Winery is the project of Alexandra and Ross Andrew Mickel (who cut his winemaking teeth at Betz Family Winery). This cabernet is named "The Huntsman", as Ross loves to hunt, and also because he hunts down Columbia Valley's top vineyards for his grapes. Grapes for this cabernet were sourced from some of eastern Washington’s finest vineyards, including Alder Ridge, Ciel du Cheval, and Klipsun, lending the wine balance, power, and structure. This is a great daily drinker with a classic cabernet profile. Generous aromas of blackberry, cassis, and green herbs evolve into clean, lush black raspberry flavors with notes of vanilla and licorice on the palate. Lively acidity and light grainy tannins all contribute to a wine you'll want to reach for again and again. Try this with mushroom-quinoa burgers with caramelized onions and cheddar.

Field Recordings "Fiction Red" Paso Robles 2015 - SUSTAINABLY GROWN
Country: USA / Region: CALIFORNIA / Appellation: PASO ROBLES / Varietal(s): ZINFANDEL+SYRAH+MOURVÈDRE+GRACIANO+CABERNET SAUVIGNON+TOURIGA NACIONAL+CARIGNAN --- Andrew Jones seems to have a keen eye for finding diamond-in-the-rough parcels with untapped potential in California’s Central Coast. He spends his days as a vine nursery employee planning and planting vineyards for farmers all over the region and, in return, is sometimes gifted small allocations of the finest fruit the vines can offer for his efforts. Given his background, there’s no question as to why he produces such expressive and delicious wines. This red is a quirky blend of grapes. Based mostly in zinfandel, it also incorporates grapes traditional to Iberia and southern France. The wine is a full-bodied, fruit forward expression of the Paso Robles region. The fruit is decidedly black in profile, yet the tannins are a bit softer. This is a great partner to dry-rubbed Memphis style BBQ or chipotle black bean and sweet potato fajitas with avocado.
