Country: ARGENTINA / Region: MENDOZA / Appellation: VALLE DE UCO / Varietal(s): MALBEC --- Argentina has made its wine-producing name on malbec, offering easy drinking versions at affordable prices. However, the country can also vinify more robust styles as well. Puramun means "harvest" in the indigenous language of the region and it is the solo project of acclaimed winemaker José “Pepe” Galante. He worked for many years at Catena Zapata establishing malbec but also pushing the heights to which Argentine winemaking could reach. Here he works a small site in the Valle de Uco sub-zone, considered by many as the top spot for growing malbec. Galante cuts no corners here: this is all hand harvested and then hand sorted twice to eliminate anything unwanted in the fermentation tank. The wine is aged in oak, a combination of new and used. The final product is big and robust, ideal for cold evenings, hearty bean stews or a meaty pasta dish.
