|Vineyard/Cellar Practices||Certified Organic|
The village of Verzy is situated on the northeastern side of the Montagne de Reims: toward the northern edge of one of the most northerly winegrowing regions in Europe. When Vincent Renoir began to shift responsibility for the domaine to his son Adrien, they differed over whether organic farming could succeed in their particular climate. Beginning in 2014, Adrien slowly converted the family parcels, one by one, to organic methods. By 2016, with his own name on the bottles, Adrien was producing certified organic Champagne. Adrien’s assemblage “Le terroir” draws exclusively from the estate’s vineyards in grand cru Verzy. Though a non-vintage Champagne, this edition draws primarily from the 2018 harvest, with an even split of 50% chardonnay and 50% pinot noir. After fermentation with indigenous yeasts and 11 months’ aging in barrel, the wine continued to age for 24 months on the lees in bottles, which were subsequently disgorged in April 2021 with a very low dosage of 1.6 g/L. A delicate, light yellow-gold Champagne, it opens fresh and floral, with crisp peach and a hint of dry honey. Toasty brioche on the palate gives way to a citrus finish. Certified organic.
