Way out in Western Australia, the Frankland River area takes advantage of gravelly soils and a Mediterranean climate conducive to growing great wines. Alkoomi is one of the largest family-owned wineries in Western Australia. When Vic and Netta Lange first purchased the property in 1946, Netta named it Alkoomi, a local Aboriginal word meaning “a place we chose.” Now run by Vic and Netta’s granddaughter Sandy and her husband Rod Hallett, Alkoomi focuses on French varietals. This cabernet-merlot blend casts a Bordeaux experience in an Australian mold. Savory and medium-bodied, it wafts tobacco and bay leaf over dark flavors of blueberry, cassis, and chocolate, structured with fine tannins. Sustainably grown, vegan.
