Antica Torino, founded by friends Vittorio Zoppi and Filippo Antonelli, is producing fabulous traditional amari and vermouths in Piedmont. Vittorio was a former Liguria-based wine/spirits huntsman and Filippo was a winemaker in Umbria. Through their shared passion for these traditional beverages, they solicited the wisdom and guidance from producers, writers, bartenders, and industry professionals to craft their products with pride. They use only natural ingredients in their Amaro della Sacra: leaves, flowers, seeds, roots, resins, spices, and barks. The label was designed in 1925 by Francesco Carandini, a Piedmontese historian and poet, and it shows a Benedictine monk with the Sacra di San Michele (a symbolic monument of Piedmont) in the background perched on the summit of Mount Pirchiriano. The amaro is warm brown in color with tons of richness and flavors of cinnamon, cardamom, and cinchona with a long, complex, bittersweet finish.
