Antica Torino, founded by friends Vittorio Zoppi and Filippo Antonelli, is producing fabulous traditional amari and vermouths in Piedmont. Vittorio was a former Liguria-based wine/spirits huntsman and Filippo was a winemaker in Umbria. Through their shared passion for these traditional beverages, they solicited the wisdom and guidance from producers, writers, bartenders, and industry professionals to craft their products with pride. Their vermouth only contains natural ingredients, such as home-grown absinthe, rhubarb, and gentian, grapfruit peel, vanilla pods, rosemary, and red thyme. There are thirteen botanicals in all, but the recipe is a strictly guarded family secret. It is almost identitical to the vermouths that were drunk in the bars of Turin during the Belle Epoque, making it the appropriate choice to recreate historical cocktails and also enhance modern ones. It is a deep amber red in color with aromas of wine, spice, herbs, laurel, gentian, vanilla and citrus. On the palate, it is both sweet and savory with a distinct note of ginger with a long, complex finish.
