Kim Engle and Debra Bermingham of Bloomer Creek Vineyard have been making innovative, complex wines from the Finger Lakes region for 30 years, while also setting the standard for organic farming and low-intervention winemaking in a challenging climate. They achieve spectacular results without the use of insecticides or herbicides in the vineyard, and without fining or filtration in the winemaking process. The grapes are harvested by hand, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and benefit from extended lees aging. This skin-contact co fermentation draws from both of the vineyard sites that Bloomer Creek manages: the grüner veltliner comes from a small plot in the Auten vineyard, while the chardonnay comes from their Morehouse Road location. An unusual combination; one that really works! This combines both fruitful and savory elements, accented with notes of black tea and honey and backed by sizzling acidity and an intense citrus character. Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
