A true trailblazer in natural winemaking in New York State, Bloomer Creek Vineyard proves that producing delectable wines while working organically is not an impossible feat, even in New York's challenging climate. (The first natural winemakers of Burgundy and the Loire Valley in France also heard similar protestations.) Proprietors Kim Engle and Debra Bermingham have been crafting beautiful examples of low-intervention wines for over 20 years and farming organically for over 30 years. Harvest is done by hand and fermentation is done with ambient or wild yeast. The results of all that hard work: absolutely delicious! The ‘Half Moon’ rosé (named for Henry Hudson’s ship that sailed into New York harbor in 1609), is a blend of 90% pinot noir from the Auten Vineyard on the west side of Cayuga Lake with 10% cabernet franc. The pinot is macerated for six hours, then blended with the cab franc and spontaneously fermented in stainless steel before being bottled without fining or filtration, and minimal sulfur. This rosé offers a meaty, terroir-driven profile, with vibrant aromas of raspberry, red currant, cherry, and crushed herbs over a savory, earthy backbone. A fantastically refreshing sipper, this is a sophisticated food-friendly pick! Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
