Azienda Agricola Borgo Savaian di Bastiani Stefano (quite the mouthful, we know) has been family owned and operated for three generations in Cormons, a small region in Friuli that lies a mere 12 kilometers from the Slovenian border. The youngest generation was inspired to take over the vineyard for their parents at the young age of 14, after enjoying a bottle of classic Friulano in the family vineyard. The estate covers 18 hectares alongside Mount Quarin, and the family focuses on sustainably farming indigenous varieties and is committed to a natural lifestyle of the vineyards that is in harmony with their surroundings. “Aransat” is Friulian slang for “orange”, and the pinot grigio and sauvignon blanc grapes for this cuvée are spontaneously fermented on their skins in stainless steel tanks, with post-fermentation maceration on the skins lasting for around 90 days before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. This offering is a fantastic introduction to orange wines! It has just the right amount of tannin, with flavors of dried apricot and jasmine and is amazingly crisp and refreshing.
