Fratelli Brovia dates back to 1863 and was founded by Giacinto Brovia in the village of Castiglione Falletto, right in the heart of Barolo. It has been in the hands of the Brovia family ever since, but production was halted during the phylloxera plague, economic turmoil, and two wars, but was restarted by Giacinto and Raffaele, grandchildren of the founder. Giacinto is a trained enologist and Raffaele was a trained agronomist, but sadly, Raffaele passed away in 2011. His duties were taken over by Giacinto’s two daughters, Cristina and Elena, and their wines are still vinified in classic style, with the Baroli aging for at least two years in large Slavonian and French oak barrels. They are classically rustic in character, with grippy tannin and a long, mineral-inflicted finish, with classic notes of rose petals and dried cherries. Organically grown.
