Long overshadowed by Priorat, its close neighbor to the east, the region of Montsant has its own unique character, highlighted by bright red clay, chalk, and granite soils. Celler Comunica is a small winery in Montsant started by Patri Morillo and Pep Aguilar in 2010. They first bonded as students on the commuter train between Barcelona and Catalonia, and ended up as roommates. After they finished their studies, Patri and Pep formed their own oenology consultancy which evolved into the creation of their own label. Comunica (meaning "the (phone) line is busy") comes from the Fontanals-Baboixos estate vineyards, a showcase of decomposed granitic soils, moderate climate, and old vines. “La Pua” is a style of vine grafting where you split open the trunk where the old vine was cut off and insert wood of the new vine. This was the first white wine released by Celler Comunica after they spent years developing white wines for other cellars. It is made with 85% white grenache and 15% red grenache from vines planted in calcareous clay, granitic sand, and slate. The wine is fermented in plastic eggs (no oxidation) and aged on fine lees for 8 months. It has a wonderfully round texture with a hint of color from the red grenache, with aromas and flavors of citrus and stone fruit with a saline minerality on the finish and a hint of white flowers. Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
