Château Croix Figeac is an ancient estate in Saint-Emilion, located on the limestone plateaux near Figeac and Cheval Blanc. It was somewhat disassembled during its history, but was able to retain excellent plots, including Lamarzelle, adjacent to the prestigious Château Figeac. It was rescued in the 90’s when it was purchased by Jean Dutruilh, a former skiing champion turned winemaker, and his father. The aim of the estate under their ownership is to produce well-balanced and elegant wines using organic viticulture. The vines have a an average age of 35 years, and production is deliberately limited in order to ensure grape quality worthy of making a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru wine. The vineyard is composed of 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc, with manual harvest from well-drained soils comprised of sandy alluvium and a gravel and clay-limestone layer. After fermentation, the wine ages partially in new barrels for 12-16 months, and the wine is only fined, not filtered. The wine has an abundance of fleshy dark fruit with velvety tannins, a classic streak of graphite and a touch of oak influence. Organically grown.
