Brothers Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe took over winemaking duties at Château du Cèdre from their father in the ‘90s, prohibiting the use of chemicals and pesticides and coining the domaine’s motto: “Move forward, experience new ways.” Those ways are certainly paying off, as the brothers’ wines are examples of refinement and balance, focusing on highlighting the terroir of Cahors, located an hour and a half east of Bordeaux. Malbec is the star here, and Pascal and Jean-Marc use the grape’s signature dark, powerful character to produce wines that are wonderfully rich and complex without being overly brooding. This cuvée is a case-in-point: layers of dark raspberry mingle with waves of smoke, crushed herbs, and incense. Medium to full bodied on the palate, it maintains a vibrance and freshness that pairs wonderfully with food, inviting sip after sip. Certified organic.
