|Region||Burgundy - Beaujolais|
|Appellation/Sub-Region||Côte de Brouilly AOC|
|Vineyard/Cellar Practices||Organically Grown|
Mont Brouilly constitutes a unique geographical feature in the topography of the Beaujolais region: an old volcano, composed of pierre bleue (blue diorite). And Château Thivin is a unique producer among those perched on Brouilly’s slopes: they are the oldest (dating to the fourteenth century), and their oldest vines have delved into the volcanic rock for a century or more. Claude Vincent Geoffray, his wife Evelyne, along with their son Claude-Edouard and his wife Sonja, continue the family tradition, farming organically and using strips of flowers, grazing sheep, and compost to maintain the health of the soil. Their vinification facility is built into the hillside, to allow gravity to facilitate as much of the process as possible. After hand-harvesting and natural fermentation, their wines age in old oak foudres for at least six months. Here the Côte de Brouilly shines through in a defined minerality, with velvety ripe plum, black and red berries, and flowers. Certified organic.
