Vineyard/Cellar Practices |
Christian Venier is located in the eastern Touraine, in Cheverny where he refined his natural winemaking skills working with his cousin Thierry & Jean-Marie Puzelat of Clos du Tue Boeuf. After spending seasons assisting with harvests, he produced his first vintage in the mid 90s. He kept to his philosophy of making wine naturally, remaining a farmer akin to his ancestors, organically farming his approximately 6 hectares of vineyards. This wine is 80% pinot noir and 20% gamay, hand-harvested from Christian’s higher vineyard called ‘Les Hauts de Madon’, fermented whole-cluster using natural yeast in a cement and resin tank; the grapes undergo carbonic maceration, and are bottled unfiltered with no sulfur added. It is light and fruitful but complex with minerality and life. Organically grown, low-intervention, vegan.
