Vineyard/Cellar Practices

The Berthier family domaine was founded in 1983 in the village of Sainte-Gemme-en-Sancerrois, in the heart of the Loire Valley. The domaine is now led by brothers Clément and Florian, who oversee work in both the vineyards and the cellar. They pride themselves on farming sustainably and use no herbicides or pesticides on their 25 hectares of vines, which lie both in Sancerre and the tiny appellation of Coteaux du Giennois. Older brother Clément spent two years in Canada and the US as assistant winemaker at Soléna Estate in the Willamette Valley, and is in charge of winemaking and marketing duties. Younger brother Florian developed his winegrowing talents as a vigneron in settings as diverse as Burgundy, New Zealand, and Oregon, and now manages the domaine’s vineyards. ‘L’Instant rosé’ is made from 100% pinot noir, lightly pressed and matured for a few months before release. Vibrant salmon in color, this offers generous amounts of sweet red cherry on the nose, accompanied on the palate by zesty notes of ruby red grapefruit and blood orange. Savory herbal tones mingle with chalky minerals and a touch of cracked white pepper on the finish. Totally refreshing. Sustainably grown, vegan.
