Marseille native Christophe Ferrandis studied the classics in university, but was soon drawn to winemaking. He studied enology and worked at Château de Pibarnon in Bandol, then, inspired by summer trips with his uncle near Borgo, landed in Corsica, where he worked at first as a consultant. After time spent working with Corsican wine grandmaster Yves Leccia, Christophe decided to start his own estate in 2001, purchasing 4 ha of 50-year old nielluccio vines at the age of 26. Clos Signadore has since grown to encompass over 14ha of vines, harvested by hand and certified organic (EcoCert.) The ‘Inizia’ rosé is a blend of native Corsican grapes sciaccarello (45%) and nielluccio (10%), along with vermentino (45%) from the limestone and clay soils of Morte Piana and Morsaglia. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, before the rosé is aged on the lees in stainless steel tanks through the winter before bottling in the spring. Complex, elegant, and utterly refreshing, layers of chalky seaspray linger over bright notes of white cherry, wild strawberry, peach, and a splash of tangerine. Certified organic, vegan.
