A breathtaking Mediterranean island (off the west coast of Italy, just north of Sardinia), Corsica has a winemaking tradition that's over 2,500 years old, but only recently gaining popularity here in the US. Thought to have originated in Spain, the vermentino grape quickly spread throughout Mediterranean Europe, and has been grown in northern Italy for centuries. Now the most widely planted grape varietal in Corsica, it is prized for its crisp acidity and generous bouquet of citrus and stone fruit. Tucked away between the sea, the mountains, and the scorching Agriates desert, the Patrimonio wine region is Corsica’s oldest. Marie-Brigitte (Poli) Julliard took over the reins at Close Teddi after her father’s death in 2000. Her 25-35 year old vines are sustainably farmed in the granite desert sands. Straw yellow in color, this offers up beautifully intense aromas of citrus and tropical fruits with hints of flinty minerals. In the mouth it delivers generous apricot, pear, and green apple flavors, coupled with lip smacking acidity and elegant minerality on a medium-full bodied frame. Sustainably grown, vegan.
