Companion Wine Co. was founded on the philosophy that terroir-driven, natural wine from California could be made at a price and packaging that is accessible to everyone. This delicious can of pinot gris is made for Companion by Scott Schultz of Jolie-Laide. A Chicago native, Schultz began his winemaking journey working for Pax Mahle in 2010, experimenting with obscure grape varietals like trousseau gris and melon de Bourgogne. This off-the-beaten-path approach is what ultimately makes Jolie-Laide’s wines so fascinating. They are made from lesser-known varietals like valdiguié and gamay planted in vineyards on the outskirts of typical wine regions, and vinified using classic techniques and minimal intervention. This pinot gris was foot trodden and the juice saw skin contact for three days, lending it a rosy hue, sumptuous texture, and refreshing finish! Tropical fruit flavors of papaya and guava mingle with a vibrant splash of blood orange and Meyer lemon juice. This half-bottle can is stellar, worthy of sipping from stemware, but just perfect for the backyard too! Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
