Founded by Donn and Molly Chappellet in 1967, Chappellet is renowned for producing world-class wine from grapes planted on the steep, rocky slopes of Napa's famed Pritchard Hill. One of the first Napa wineries to pioneer high elevation hillside planting, Chappellet remains one of the great family-owned Napa Valley wineries. Their adoration with Pritchard Hill began when Donn first glanced upon mountain’s spectacular vistas in the late 1960s. He had learned that “Bacchus loves the hills,” and following the advice of legendary winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff, he settled his family there soon after. Today, a second generation of the Chappellet family has embraced the mountain’s extraordinary terroir and is committed to stewarding their father’s vision. This beguiling blend of Bordeaux varietals puts all that charisma on full display. 44% cabernet sauvignon, 33% merlot, 10% malbec, 8% petit verdot, and 5% cabernet franc. Fragrant cherry, plum, and currant notes yield to hints of spicy graphite, clove, and cedar on the nose, before a lush, layered palate of berry and spice takes over. This wine is full bodied, silky and balanced with firm and structured tannins, and warm vanilla and spice from some French oak on a lengthy finish.
