Winemaker Cathy Corison fell in love with wine over 45 years ago when she spontaneously decided to take a wine course at Pomona College. A biology major, she was fascinated by the interaction among living systems that resulted in wine, and after a master’s degree in Enology from UC Davis, she headed to Napa, where her winemaking positions included stints at Yverdon and Chappellet in the 1980s. In 1987 she began to purchase great cabernet sauvignon grapes from prime vineyards between Rutherford and St. Helena, using space in others’ wineries to make the wine she had always meant to make. In 1995 she and her husband and partner William Martin purchased Kronos Vineyard, a property that had been a farm for over a century, and Corison Winery finally became a true estate vineyard. Three decades later, Corison Winery holds a well-deserved reputation for producing some of the best cabernet sauvignons that represent the heart of the iconic Napa Valley.

The 2018 vintage is deep and dark, thanks to a long, cool ripening season with cold nights. These conditions assisted in retaining natural acidity while contributing some interestingly complex aromas and flavors. Layers of concentrated dark fruit including tart cherry, plum, blueberry, and cassis are offset by the vivacious natural acidity that is characteristic of Corison cabs. High toned and fabulously complex, this unfurls notes of rose petals and violets, hints of cocoa, white pepper, crushed herbs, and freshly turned earth, all on a backbone of firm tannins wrapped in velvet.
