The wines of Costador are distinctive reflections of Catalunya; fruit comes from very old vineyards (vines range from 60-110 years old) grown at elevations from 400-800 meters on a single mountain. Winemaker Joan Franquet uses only organic and biodynamic practices, working with native Catalan grape varietals which are fermented using wild yeasts. ‘Brisat’ is the Catalan word for ‘orange wine’, and macerating white wine on skins in clay amphora is an old tradition in the region, but one that has nearly died out in recent years. The 2019 Xarel-lo amphorae is hand harvested from these mountain vineyards and fermented on the skins for 12 weeks in clay amphorae. Biodynamically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
