Founded by winemaker and owner Brianne Day in 2012, Day Wines is a producer of boutique, artisanal bottlings from numerous AVAs in Oregon, sourcing only from high-quality organic and biodynamic vineyards. Her family moved to the Willamette Valley when she was 16, and in her 20s, she traveled the world’s wine regions for two years, falling more in love with wine at each stop, taking intern positions in France, New Zealand, and Argentina. In 2012, a friend asked her if she was interested in buying fruit from his family’s vineyard, and she decided it was the right time to get started on her winemaking dreams, and Day Wines was born. The “Vin de Days l’Orange” is her second orange wine, created to satisfy the people who got hooked on the first without having to wait for its release. It is a blend of 43% müller-thurgau, 36% riesling, 14% gewürztraminer, and 7% pinot gris, which see 8 days of skin contact. These grapes create a wonderful bouquet, with all sorts of fruits ranging from tropical pineapple and mango to currant to lychee and grapefruit with a floral lift and smoky minerality. It’s super bright and fresh on the palate with silky tannin, and over time, it develops some spicier notes of candied orange and dried apricot, staying vibrant and grippy through the second and even third day of being open. A good intro for those curious in orange wines, but a fantastic example for enthusiasts as well. Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
