The Riverland wine region of South Australia is making a splash on the scene, thanks to the efforts of sustainable growers and winemakers alike, both old guard and new. Growers like Bruce Bassham and Ashley Radcliffe have led the charge with old Italian grape varietals, practicing organic viticulture and dry farming their vineyards whilst producing pristine examples of fiano, vermentino, nero d'avola, montepulciano and the like. One of the most exciting young winemakers to watch is 30-something winemaker Con-Greg Grigoriou, founder of Delinquente Wine Co. Born and raised on a vineyard in the Riverland, his father was the manager of production at one of the local bulk wineries. Con-Greg's approach is to focus on sustainable Southern Italian grape varieties that need less water and thrive in the Riverland’s warm, dry climate. They are organically grown, single vineyard fruit, complemented with a minimal intervention winemaking approach including natural, open ferments, and no additions in the winery besides a touch of SO2.
This 'Pretty Boy' is a palate charmer for sure! 100% nero d'Avola, the famous black grape of Sicily, this handsome deep salmon rosé is silky, slurpable, and a touch savory. Luscious watermelon, Rainier cherry, strawberry, and lemon drop on the nose yield to dry red berries and a squeeze of fresh blood orange juice, while mouthwatering acidity and a subtle creamy texture make this nearly irresistible to put down! Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
