Division Winemaking Co. is a Portland, Oregon based winery founded in 2010 by Kate Norris and Thomas Monroe, and inspired by the wines of Loire, Beaujolais, Burgundy, and the Northern Rhône. This urban winery works with well-farmed terroir-driven vineyards, many of which are organic or biodynamic to source the grapes that allow them to make approachable, balanced wines with minimal manipulation. Within the Willamette Valley, the Eola-Amity Hills are well known as one of the most coveted places for growing cool climate pinot noir. They're not as well known for producing great sauvignon blanc... but this bottle just might change your mind! Oregon winemaking legend Myron Redford founded Amity Vineyards in the mid-70s as part of a group of young pioneering entrepreneurs that were responsible for building the Oregon wine industry. While most members focused on pinot noir and pinot gris, Myron spent time experimenting with other varietals such as gamay noir, riesling, and sauvignon blanc. After selling the original Amity Vineyards, he and his partner Vikki Wetle planted a 7.5 acre certified organic vineyard at their home property which is the source for about half the sauvignon blanc for this cuvée. Named "La Frontière", it seeks to forge a new frontier in Oregon winemaking. The certified organic Allegre Vineyard in the Columbia Gorge contributes the other half of the fruit for this bottling. Fermented "sur lie" using native yeast in a combination of neutral white Burgundy barrels, one new oak barrel, and stainless steel, this is a delicious demonstration of New World sauvignon blanc at its most refreshing. Vibrant grapefruit, honeydew, and lemongrass aromatics provide a compelling introduction to a full, bright palate of citrus and melon on a medium bodied frame. Racy acidity complements a succulent, juicy texture, while secondary notes of delicate tarragon, citrus peel, and passionfruit contribute to a supple finish. Certified organic, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
