Division Winemaking Co. is a Portland, Oregon based winery founded in 2010 by Kate Norris and Thomas Monroe, and inspired by the wines of Loire, Beaujolais, Burgundy, and the Northern Rhône. This urban winery works with well-farmed terroir-driven vineyards, many of which are organic or biodynamic to source the grapes that allow them to make approachable, balanced wines with minimal manipulation. One of the coolest, wettest wine growing regions in the US, the Willamette Valley is known for producing top notch pinot noir. This delicate cuvée is the result of fruit from two organically-farmed vineyards; predominantly Methven Family Vineyards in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA and Cassin Vineyard in Yamhill Carlton AVA, with 10% coming from the biodynamic-certified Johan Vineyard in the Van Duzer AVA. It’s produced via carbonic maceration, a technique common in Beaujolais, that involves fermenting the wines in a closed vessel filled with CO2 which results in a vibrant, fruity, light-yet-succulent style. Native yeasts were used to spark fermentation in stainless steel tanks, with each site fermented separately, then blended and aged for five months in a combination of French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. The result is extremely gulpable, but with plenty of delicate complexity to satisfy serious wine lovers too! A silky core of ethereal strawberry and red cherry flavors, dusty chalk notes, and a light hint of freshly cracked black pepper mingle effortlessly into a wine of refreshing purity.
