Pierre Cornu’s family has lived in Échevronne, a village outside of Beaune, since the thirteenth century, and there their winery remains. Together with his wife, Bernadette Camus, their daughter Lydia, and Lydia’s husband Christophe Pertuzot, Pierre continues the family tradition. The vines for this classic Burgundian pinot noir, planted forty years ago by Pierre and his father, sit on the slope above the village of Comblanchien. In caring for the vines, the domaine follows lutte raisonnée principles and harvests by hand. This Côte de Nuits-Villages release shows a bright cherry color in its youth, deepening to garnet as it ages. Aromas of black cherry, along with rhubarb, hazelnut, chamomile, and cardamom, mix with a touch of smoke. It deepens on the palate while retaining a refreshing brightness, with fig and baking spice to accent deep cherry notes, through a long saline and mineral finish. Sustainably grown.
