|Vineyard/Cellar Practices||Sustainably Grown, Vegan|
Jean-Claude and Marie-Odile Janin draw from a handful of vineyards in the heart of the Mâconnais region. Their domaine is based in Péronne, on Marie-Odile’s family’s land, though this release comes from vineyards close by, in the spot now known as Vérizet. Long ago, in Roman times, a certain Béracius founded a villa on the spot: hence the name of this cuvée. Most of the Janins’ wine is sold locally; here it is a rare treat, and a great value for the price. It opens with creamy pear and a slight nuttiness, adding peach, herbal, and salty notes as it unfolds. The limestone-based soils of the region ground the finish with the lasting minerality of classic burgundy. Sustainably grown, vegan.
