Domaine du Viking has been family owned and operated for six generations, being first purchased in 1835. The family were already tenants on the property called Melotin Place, located in Reugny, before purchasing it and focusing on agriculture and viticulture. By the 1950’s, their land had expanded to 6 hectares, and they began planting more chenin blanc, with the Vouvray AOC having been recently established. They have been producing high-quality Vouvray AOC wines since, with a whole range going from sparkling to dry to dessert. They started making the dessert style wines in 1985, when the grapes carrying noble rot were selected and fermented separately, and the ‘Cuvée Aurélie’ was born, only being created in exceptional vintages where the best climatic conditions allowed for it. This is an incredibly finessed dessert wine with beautiful balance and notes of orchard and tropical fruit with plenty of honey and beeswax, and can go with savory fare like fois gras, blue cheese, saffron and curry dishes or, of course, with fruit and fruit desserts.
