Fabrice Gasnier’s family has farmed vineyards around the village of Chézelet, on the right bank of the river Vienne, since 1902, and they continue to own and manage their 27 hectares themselves. Since taking over the management of the domaine from his father in 1990, Fabrice has moved fully into biodynamic farming practices and devoted the vineyards almost exclusively to cabernet franc. All of their vineyard sites face south and, with very low yields, naturally produce a delicious concentration of flavor. ‘Les Graves’ comes from a single vineyard of 30-year-old vines growing in gravelly terraces. It ferments spontaneously in cement vats. Fruity and bright, with cherry, blackberry, and plum up front, it unfolds with fine tannins and minerality on the palate.
