The vineyards of Domaine Ferrandière are planted on the hillsides of Saint Frichoux and on the old saltwater marsh of Marseillette. Controlled flooding of the vineyards in the winter removes the salinity from the soils, while also protecting the vines from frost damage. The unique clay soils are not susceptible to phylloxera, which allows the domaine to plant ungrafted vines, which are sustainably farmed (certified by Terra Vitis). Light to medium bodied, this pinot noir displays fresh cherry and strawberry on the nose and palate, with a smooth, quaffable texture from oak aging and delicate hints of cracked black pepper on the finish. Stylistically this sits right at the intersection of Old and New World styles: displaying classic French balance between lifted acidity and earthy depth, it also offers enough warm fruit tones to please California and Oregon pinot drinkers. A versatile value sure to be a crowd pleaser. Certified sustainable.
