Christine Vernay has managed her family’s estate since 1996, following in the footsteps of her father and grandfather. This “Terrasses de l’Empire” white is her own original creation, first issued in 1998. Mechanical harvesting has never been possible on the steep terraces of Condrieu, and the particular local conditions make organic, sustainable farming practices more difficult to maintain. Christine, undaunted, has committed to organic farming for over 20 years (though official certification has come more recently) and has been moving in the direction of biodynamics. As is required in the Condrieu AOC, all of Vernay’s whites are made from 100% viognier, though each label brings out different aspects of the grape. This expression of the Condrieu terroir showcases banana and pineapple, along with coconut, almond, and floral notes. Voluptuous and elegant, with a touch of minerality. Certified organic, vegan.
