In their winery at the edge of the compact medieval village of Eguisheim, Fabienne and Jean-Louis Mann produce a consistently excellent set of wines from the characteristic grapes of their Alsatian region. They have made wine from their 12-hectare family estate since 1998. Organic since 2004 (certified organic in 2008), they have since incorporated biodynamic practices into their farming as well. This powerful riesling comes from the lieu-dit Altengarten, which draws its distinctive saline minerality from the predominance of sandstone (grès) in the soil. Harvested by hand and pressed whole-bunch, it ferments with indigenous yeasts and ages on the lees in stainless steel. A dry riesling with significant body and texture: salty lime up front, with minerality and focused citrus on the palate. Certified organic, low-intervention/natural, vegan.
